Are you prepared for a disaster? If not, now's your chance to attend the PlanSafe Disaster Preparedness Workshop.
Goochland County is pleased to announce the participation along with nearby localities in providing the PlanSafe Disaster Preparedness Workshop (formerly known as Survivor Day) as an opportunity for citizens to become better prepared for emergency and disaster situations at no cost to participants. “I strongly encourage Goochland residents to take advantage of this free opportunity to prepare for future disasters,” said John Budesky, Goochland County Administrator. “You never know when the next disaster will occur, just last year Goochland barely dodged Hurricane Florence and tornado outbreaks in September 2018 & April 2019.”
The three-hour workshop will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 9 AM – 12:00 PM (check-in begins at 8:00 AM) at Goochland Baptist Church, located at 2454 Manakin Road Manakin- Sabot, Virginia 23103. Training will be provided on topics, such as, Planning and Documents, Household Safety, Active Threat, Food and Water Safety. Participation is for adults and children, 13 or older.
For families that want to participate with children ages 4 -12, this year, for the first time, Goochland will also be providing a children’s program at the same time alongside the main program. It will include the Fire Safety House, Goochland Sheriff’s Office Child ID, “Make Your Own Go Bag” station and “My Family Communication/Plan/Tools” station. Each child will be able to take home their own Go Bag.
Each family completing the workshop will receive one free Plan Safe Kit Preparedness Backpack for their household. “We are in the middle of hurricane season, having a plan and the right supplies on hand before an emergency occurs is critical for each family. Please plan to visit the PlanSafe Disaster Preparedness Workshop on September 7th and allow us to assist you in the planning process,” said Interim Fire-Rescue Chief Eddie Ferguson with Goochland County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services.
For families with children 13 or older, register online at www.PlanSafe.org.
