Starting April 1, 2018, we will accept E-Recordings with Simplifile. Starting July 1, 2018 a $5 fee will be required for all paper land recordings filed in the office.
All documents associated with land transactions may be recorded in Goochland County from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm, Monday through Friday. Documents presented after normal recording hours will be recorded the next business day. All paper documents must be originals and notarized correctly. Tax map numbers must be on the first page. Checks made payable to Clerk of the Court.

Our courtroom is equipped with a new audiovisual device called an ELMO with display screens. You may be able to use this device with advance notice. Please contact our office at least a week in advance to use this device. The ELMO device allows you to display pre-printed pictures or documents. You can play video, sound recordings, or display pictures or documents from an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or by using an SD card. A laptop can also be connected as long as you have an HDMI port on your computer.
To use the document viewer: Place the document under the viewer on top of the table. Zoom in and focus using the machine.

Note: We are not liable for damage to your equipment even when caused by connection to our equipment. By utilizing our equipment, you waive liability on the part of the Court for any damage caused to your equipment. If you leave your equipment during a time of recess, you do so at your own risk.
Cell phones or electronic devices are not allowed in the courtroom unless you have an order signed by the Judge. This order can be completed on the date of court and can be faxed or e-mailed to you upon request.

Potential jurors should be in the court room no later than 9:00 am on the day of the trial. It is always best to check our Jury Hotline at 804-556-5351 which gives information about time and cancellations if they should occur. If you wish to obtain a concealed handgun permit, complete the Virginia Application for Concealed Handgun Permit and bring it to the Clerk's Office with the required fee of $15.00 (cash or check) and a self-addressed stamped envelope. It is important that you answer all questions on the application and attach proof of competency with a handgun, failure to do so will delay issuance of your permit.
