Voting Signs 2020 - Important 2020 Election Reminders

The November General Election will be held on November 3, 2020. All Precincts will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.  If you are in line at 7 p.m. you will be allowed to vote. Here are some helpful reminders for the 2020 November General Election.

Last Day to Vote Early is Saturday, October 31

Virginia no longer requires a reason to vote absentee.  Goochland County’s Voter Satellite Office is open for in-person absentee early voting Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Voter Satellite Office will also be open on Saturday, October 31 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.   Saturday, October 31 is the last day to vote early.

The Voter Satellite Office is located inside Goochland County Parks and Recreation’s Goochland Sports Complex building at 1800 Sandy Hook Rd., Goochland, VA 23063.

Know Where You Vote. 

You can check where you vote using the citizen portal at the Department of Elections website here: https://www.elections.virginia.gov/citizen-portal/.  You have to vote at your designated polling place.  If you go to the wrong polling place you will be directed to the correct polling place which will lead to delays.

Temporary Emergency Polling Place Relocations Due to COVID-19

Goochland Emergency Polling Place Changes - Election 2020

There have been 2 temporary emergency polling place relocations in Goochland County due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, 0102 – Hadensville Precinct and 0502 – Blair Road Precinct.

0102 - Hadensville Precinct

0102 - Hadensville Precinct has moved to Fire Station Company 6 at 4810 Three Chopt Road, Louisa, Virginia, 23093.  It previously was located at County Line Fellowship Hall at 4070 County Line Road, Kents Store, Virginia 23084.

0502 - Blair Road Precinct

0502 - Blair Road Precinct has moved to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church located at 12291 River Road, Richmond, Virginia 23238. It previously was located at the Collegiate School Athletics Building located at 400 Blair Road, Richmond, Virginia 23238.

Returning Your Ballot

VA Dept of Elections 3 Ways to Return Ballots

Voters can return voted ballots through three different methods: By mail, to drop off locations at the Office of the General Registrar or the Voter Satellite Office and drop off ballots at polling places on Election Day.


VA Dept of Elections - Mail Back Absentee Ballots

Voted ballots can be returned by mail to P.O. Box 1013, Goochland, VA 23063.  The last day to post mark a mail-in ballot is November 3, 2020.  You can track your ballot using the Ballot Scout Lookup Tool: https://ballotscout.org/partners/595410ba-a9e2-4da8-a601-0412562a50ab/search


VA Dept of Elections Drop Off at Registrars Office

Ballots can be returned Monday – Friday during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) to a drop off location at the Office of the General Registrar at 1876 Sandy Hook Rd, Goochland, VA 23063 or at the Voter Satellite Office at the Goochland County Sports Complex 1800 Sandy Hook Rd, Goochland, VA 23063. The Voter Satellite Office will also be open to accept ballots on Saturday, October 31 from 9am - 5pm.


VA Dept of Elections Drop Off at Polling Place

Drop off locations will also be available at all polling places on Election Day. Please visit the District Information page (https://www.goochlandva.us/562/District-Information) for a list of polling places addresses.  If you are returning your ballot to a polling place on Election Day you do not have to wait in line.  Please avoid the line and speak to an Election Official to turn in your voted ballot.


Return Voted Ballots Example

When returning a voted ballot, it must be in the ballot envelope with your name written legibly on the envelope.  Please return the ballot and ballot envelope using the return envelope provided by the Office of the General Registrar.  

Wear a Mask or Facial Covering

Pursuant to Executive Order Sixty-Three and Order of Public Health Emergency Five from Governor Ralph Northam all patrons entering the Voter Satellite Office, the Office of the General Registrar and all precincts are required to wear a face mask or facial covering when entering, exiting, traveling through, and spending time in the buildings.  The Office of the General Registrar will honor these identified exceptions:

  • while eating and drinking
  • while exercising
  • any person who has trouble breathing, or incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the face covering without assistance
  • any person seeking to communicate with a hearing-impaired person, for which the mouth needs to be visible
  • any person with a health condition that keeps them from wearing a face covering.
