The Goochland County Commissioner of Revenue and Real Estate Assessor will be hosting an informational session for non-profit organizations who own real estate and/or personal property in Goochland County that is exempt from real estate and personal property taxes.
Unlike other local tax exemptions (i.e., land use, elderly/disabled), Goochland has not had a process for collecting records that support the nonprofit entity tax exemption. However, state law allows a locality to adopt an ordinance for an application to be filed every three years. Staff are seeking to improve the ability to document which entities are exempt from real estate and/or personal property taxes by having the County adopt an application ordinance amendment.
The application process would require non-profit organizations to provide documentation and information about ownership and use of real estate and personal property in the county.
The informational meeting will be held on May 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm in Room 250, the Board Meeting Room at the County Administration Building, 1800 Sandy Hook Road. Representatives from local non-profit organizations are encouraged to attend this informational meeting. Staff will explain the need for the ordinance amendment, have available the proposed application, and provide answers to any questions about the upcoming application process.
