Goochland County Administrator Seeking Other Opportunities

Goochland County Administrator Vic Carpenter has submitted his letter of resignation to the Goochland County Board of Supervisors. His last day will be February 20th.

“It is with a degree of sadness that I inform you of my desire to separate from Goochland County,” Carpenter’s resignation letter states. “I have determined that I should seek a new direction.”

Carpenter began serving as Goochland’s County Administrator in June 2022; he had been serving as County Administrator in Kershaw County, SC before he relocated to Goochland.

Tom Winfree, Chair of the Goochland County Board of Supervisors, accepted Carpenter’s resignation, stating “Vic has done his best on behalf of the County and residents and the Board appreciates his service.”

Carpenter stated, “In 2022, God brought me here, and for that I am thankful. I will serve the remainder of my time giving everything I have, as the Board, this community, and the county deserve nothing less.”

Board of Supervisors Special Meeting

The Goochland County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in the Board Meeting Room at the County Administration Building. The Board will hold a special meeting to go into a closed meeting to discuss recruitment for the positions of Interim County Administrator and County Administrator. Read more.

Winfree and Christy to Lead Goochland County
Board of Supervisors in 2025

On Tuesday, January 21st, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to elect District 3 Supervisor Tom Winfree as Chair and District 1 Supervisor Jonathan Christy as Vice-Chair for 2025.

Mr. Winfree and Mr. Christy are serving as the Board’s Chair and Vice-Chair for the first time. Both were elected in 2023, and began serving their first term as supervisor on January 1, 2024. Mr. Winfree succeeds District 4 Supervisor Charlie Vaughters.

Goochland’s Board of Supervisors holds an afternoon and evening meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. The specific start time of the afternoon meetings will be set and publicized at least seven days before the meeting, while the evening meeting will begin at 6 P.M. The third Tuesday of each month is reserved for additional meetings, should the need arise. Additional budget meetings and public hearings are scheduled in the months of February, March, and April.

Congratulations to Carol Johnston on Her Retirement!

During their January 21st meeting, the Board of Supervisors presented Carol Johnston a Resolution of Recognition on her 34 years of service with the Goochland Department of Social Services. During her time with the County, Ms. Johnston provided services to families, the elderly, and children with care, respect, and professionalism. Thank you for your dedication and service to the Goochland community!
