Local Board of Building Code Appeals Appointment

At their February 1, 2024, meeting, the Local Board of Building Code Appeals identified the need to appoint a resident to serve on the LBBCA for a two-year term.  At this time, this notice is directed to residents of District 1 because there is not a current representative from District 1 on the Board.

Applications are being sought to provide every interested resident of District 1 the opportunity to express her/his interest in serving on the LBBCA by completing the Goochland County Boards and Commissions application form located at Goochland County, VA: Boards (granicus.com) Click on “Apply” at the top right corner of the page.

Local Board of Building Code Appeals members have an important role in our county: learning about, holding a public hearing on, and acting as a quasi-judicial board providing a first-tier due process right of adjudication of decisions of the local government building or fire official under the enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) or the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SPFC).

Staff plans to meet with the top applicants and then make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for their district appointee, based on an evaluation of the applicants using the following criteria:

1. Preferred qualifications: Architect, Engineer, Contractor, or Property Manager. 
2. Will attend all meetings of the Local Board of Building Code Appeals. The LBBCA annual meeting is held in September with subsequent meetings scheduled based on applications filed.
3. Will review meeting agenda packets prior to each meeting.
4. Will abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct for Goochland County Board of Supervisors’ Appointees.
