[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Litter Control Program to Remove Prohibited Signs from Roadways Underway

Following the 2025 General Election, Goochland County is ramping up its litter control program.

The goal of Goochland County’s sign removal program is to control litter and enhance the community’s roadways by removing signs within the road right-of-way (ROW). In addition, this program furthers the county’s strategic goals of high-quality core services, especially public safety and community health as roadside signs can limit visibility creating potentially dangerous situations.

Goochland County General Services staff are monitoring visible crossroads and corridors for prohibited signs. The County will first remove signs in three intersections: Route 6 at Maidens Road, Fairgrounds Road at Sandy Hook Road roundabout, and at Maidens Road and Fairgrounds Road starting on November 17. When identified, staff will contact the sign owner or organization listed on the sign, who will need to remove the sign within seven calendar days. Following that seven-day period, the sign will be removed and taken to the Central Convenience Center for another seven-day period, after which time, the sign will be disposed. Please note: sign owners will only be contacted when identifiable information is present on the sign.
