On Thursday, November 6th, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors appointed Martin Dean to the Planning Commission representing District 5. This seat was previously held by Dwain Cosby from April 4, 2024, to October 16, 2025.  

Dean, a longtime Goochland resident, has also served the community as a volunteer Captain for the past ten years with Goochland County Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services at Manakin Station 1. He also served two years as the Executive Director for the Goochland Volunteer Fire Association and oversaw the renovations of Stations 1, 3, and 5, as well as the expansion of bays at Station 4.  

On his appointment, Dean said, “I have been interested and involved with development for many years and look forward to helping Goochland ease into the development challenges ahead.” 

The Planning Commission is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and tasked with providing recommendations on the appropriate planning and development of the County. To do this, the Planning Commission works closely with the Planning & Zoning department in the review, recommendations and formal actions on certain development issues in Goochland County that are presented to the Board of Supervisors.
