[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Parks & Recreation Invites Community to Celebrate the Longest Day of Play

Play All Day VA

Goochland County Parks & Recreation invites all Goochland residents to celebrate the Longest Day of Play on Thursday, June 20, and discover all that’s offered within their community. Organized by the Virginia Recreation & Park Society (VRPS), Play All Day VA, aims to promote the importance of PLAY for all ages, abilities and interests through local parks and free or discounted recreational programming.

Celebrated on the summer solstice (the longest day of the year), Play All Day VA is an opportunity for everyone to get out and discover all that the Parks and Recreation department offers throughout the community. To celebrate, Goochland County Parks & Recreation encourages everyone to come explore parks or try a new activity. Free classes include:

  • Yoga in the park
  • Pickleball (youth and adult)
  • Zumba
  • Strength Training
  • Karate

Additional ways to participate include:

  • Meet the Parks & Recreation Director at Dunkin
  • Bring a picnic lunch to Leakes Mill Park
  • Walk Adoptable Dogs from the Animal Shelter
  • Enjoy three hours at Bogeys Sports Park for just $15
  • Enjoy dinner from one of the food trucks at the Skate Park

"On the Longest Day of Play, we invite all Goochland residents to join us in celebrating the joy and benefits of play. This event is a wonderful opportunity to explore our parks, try new activities, and connect with others in the community.”, said Tom Cocke, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Play is essential for all ages as it promotes physical health, mental well-being, and social connections. We are excited to see everyone come out and take part in the various free classes and activities we have planned. Together, let's make the most of the longest day of the year by discovering all that our Parks and Recreation department has to offer."

Residents enter for a chance to win a $100 credit towards any Goochland County Parks & Recreation program by entering the Sunrise and Sunset photo contest. Submit your pictures by tagging Goochland County Parks and Recreation on Facebook or Goochland_Rec on Instagram and using the hashtag #PlayAllDayVA.

Parks and recreation departments statewide offer year-round opportunities for families and individuals to explore, play, and engage in activities that promote health and wellness! According to the National Recreation and Parks Association's website, "Living close to parks and other recreation facilities is consistently related to higher physical activity levels and park usage for other health benefits for both adults and youth".
