Celebrate National Parks and Recreation month with Goochland County Parks & Recreation! On July 1, 2025, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month in Goochland County. Since 1985, the United States has celebrated Parks and Recreation month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), in July to recognize the vital role of parks and recreation in building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities. 

“We’re thrilled to have the Goochland County Board of Supervisors recognize July as National Parks & Recreation Month!”, said Tom Cocke, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Their unwavering support for parks and recreation strengthens the foundation of our community. Our parks, programs, and events are vital spaces where residents connect, families thrive, and our community spirit flourishes, building a stronger, more vibrant Goochland for all.”

“Goochland County is fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed Parks and Recreation Department.”, said Dr. Jeremy Raley, County Administrator. “During Parks and Recreation month, I encourage everyone to enjoy the outdoor spaces in our community’s parks, sign up for a new class, and explore all the opportunities our Parks and Recreation Department provides.” 

NRPA and Goochland County Parks and Recreation encourages everyone who supports parks and recreation to share why their local park and recreation professionals are important to them, on social media with #BuildTogetherPlayTogether and #GCPR. 

Goochland County Parks and Recreation is celebrating by inviting the community to participate in the upcoming events:

• Courthouse Farmers Market, Tuesday,  July 15^th, 22^nd, 29^th 
• Fireworks Celebration on Thursday, July 3^rd
• Night at Tucker Concert on Friday, July 25^th featuring the Eclectics 

Goochland County demonstrates commitment to long-term investments in parks and recreation through continued work on the update of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. As part of the Master Plan process, the community is invited to help shape the future of Parks and Recreation in Goochland. On Monday, July 14th, the department will hold its third Community Connect Event to share initial results and gather feedback on the future of Parks and Recreation in Goochland County.
