[ARCHIVED] Goochland County Parks and Recreation to Debut New Concessions Trailer

Parks and Recreation Debut New Concessions Trailer

Goochland County Parks & Recreation is thrilled to announce the debut of their new mobile concession trailer. This innovative solution will replace the aging brick-and-mortar concession stand at the Goochland Sports Complex.

The former facility had reached the end of its useful life and needed extensive, costly repairs. Rather than replacing the stand with another structure, the department identified a cost-effective and flexible option. Funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget, the purchase of the mobile trailer saved the department approximately $275,000; savings that will be redirected to other high-priority projects at the Goochland Sports Complex.

“This project is truly a group effort”, said Tom Cocke, Director of Parks and Recreation. “From Community Development and General Services to Fire-Rescue and Emergency Services and the Virginia Department of Health, everyone came together to make this project a success for our residents."

Designed for a wide variety of uses, the trailer features a flat-top grill, deep-fryers, popcorn machine, pizza/pretzel warmer, hot dog steamer, and more. While the old concession stand was utilized during county and youth sport events held at the Goochland Sports Complex, the mobility of the trailer allows for additional uses at additional department events and the opportunity to support first responders and residents during emergencies.

GCPR Food TrailerLocal nonprofits, such as Goochland Youth Athletic Association (GYAA) and Goochland United Soccer Association (GUSA), will be able to utilize the trailer for fundraising efforts during their events. In addition, Goochland County Public Schools culinary program can utilize the trailer to provide hands-on training for their students in a mobile food environment.

“The mobile food trailer is a creative approach to solving a community need.”, said Dr. Raley, County Administrator. “I’m incredibly proud of how the team worked together to identify a solution that expands service to our community, while at the same time saving and conserving our taxpayer’s financial resources.  This approach has resulted in our team delivering a flexible asset that will serve our community in a variety of ways for many years to come.”

To ensure the trailer will be operated to the highest level of health and safety standards, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director, Angelia Miller and Facility Manager, Joe Razzano have earned their Food Manager Certifications through ServSafe.

Parks and Recreation invites the community to visit the food trailer in action starting this fall at the Goochland Sports Complex. For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (804) 556-5854.
