The Goochland County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday, January 6, to elect District 1 Supervisor Jonathan Christy as Chair and District 2 Supervisor Neil Spoonhower as Vice-Chair for 2026.

Mr. Christy succeeds District 3 Supervisor Tom Winfree as Chair of the Board. Mr. Christy is serving as Chair for the first time, following his service as Vice-Chair in 2025. Mr. Christy was elected in 2023 and is serving in his first term as supervisor. 

Mr. Spoonhower will be serving in the Vice-Chair position for the first time.  Previously, Mr. Spoonhower served as Chair in 2022 and 2023. He is in his second term as a supervisor, being elected in 2019 and 2023. 

“Thank you to my fellow board members for trusting me with this position of leadership.”, said Mr. Christy. 

In addition, the Board of Supervisors adopted their 2026 Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, Rules of Procedure, and meeting schedule. Goochland’s Board of Supervisors holds an afternoon and evening meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. The specific start time of the afternoon meetings will be set and publicized at least seven days before the meeting, while the evening meeting will begin at 6 P.M. The third Tuesday of each month is reserved for additional meetings, should the need arise. Additional budget meetings and public hearings are scheduled in the months of February, March, and April.
