Highlighting each year’s conference is a formal presentation of awards. This state-wide program honors individuals, departments and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in several areas during the previous year. VRPS received over 100 applications vying for awards in 14 different categories. Judged by a jury of its peers, Goochland County Parks and Recreation was selected for the Best New Facility Award (Parks, Playgrounds, Greenways and Trails) for the category Population 25,000 and Under.
Goochland County Parks and Recreation was recognized for Matthews Park, the County’s newest park in western Goochland. Located at 5399 Matthews Road, the new 36-acre community park features a playground, swings, a picnic area, and a walking trail.
