[ARCHIVED] Boil Water Notice Issued for Jenkins Trailer Park in Goochland County

Goochland County - Boil Water Notice Issued for Jenkins Trailer Park 2018

This Boil Water Notice applies ONLY to the residents of the Jenkins Trailer Park and the public water supply well serving the trailer park.  This does not apply to Goochland’s Public Utilities customers or users of other public water supply systems.

VDH’s Office of Drinking Water advises that boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and making ice until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.  Boiling is the preferred method to assure that the tap water is safe to drink.  Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.

Additional, boil water procedures including frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) are available at http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/drinking-water/boil-water-faqs/.

This notice was issued as a precaution because monthly monitoring of the source water from the public water supply wells serving Jenkins Trailer Park indicated periodic high concentrations of total coliform bacteria and E. coli Bacteria. However, monthly monitoring of the chlorinated water in the distribution system has consistently indicated an absence of total coliform bacteria and E. coli bacteria.

The owner of Jenkins Trailer Park has been instructed to increase bacteriological monitoring in the distribution system to two samples per month. They are to maintain a chlorine residual of at least 1.0 mg/1 at the entry point to the water system, monitor the chlorine residual daily at the entry point, and conduct a Microscopic Particulate Analysis (MPA) of the source water or obtain another source water for the trailer park. In addition, the Office of Drinking Water instructed the owner to contact them within 5 working days to discuss this issue and available options.

The Boil Water Notice will remain in effect for residents of the Jenkins Trailer Park until the additional water quality evaluation is completed or the owners find a new source of water.

**Please note this notice ONLY applies to the residents of the Jenkins Trailer Park; it does not apply to Goochland's Public Utilities customers or users of other public water supply systems.**
