Smart meters help provide better service- like power outage detection, faster problem resolution and remote meter readings. Smart meters can also help customers manage their energy use by providing daily energy information through their account.
The deployment of smart meters into the Goochland and south-eastern Louisa County areas will take place this summer and likely through early 2020, beginning the week of July 8, 2019. At this time, only Dominion Energy's customers served by their Richmond Office (essentially east of Hadensville-Fife Road) will be switched as part of this project. Those served by their Orange Office (essentially west of Hadensville-Fife Road) will be part of the project at a later date.
Aclara, Dominion Energy's contractor, will be completing the deployment of the smart meters. To communicate with customers that their meter is being replaced, postcards will be mailed (by Aclara) and arrive in advance of the meter swap. Aclara vehicles will have magnetic signage, indicating they are working on behalf of the company and installers will distribute door hangers.
