[ARCHIVED] Winter Programs at Parks and Recreation- Register Today!

Winter is here and so are new sessions of your favorite programs as well as some great events! Join Goochland County Parks and Recreation as we bring in the new season!


K9: Intro to Canine Fitness

Did you know?...Keeping your dog fit, flexible, and mentally stimulated helps extend their lifespan and quality of life? In this class we will explore the foundation elements and principles behind canine fitness work...the how's, why's, in's, and outs of all things fitness related. There will be a few props/equipment needs for this class that will be discussed the first week. Dogs should be 6 months or older and injury free to participate in this class.

Karate

Students will learn techniques including kicking, punching, blocking, sparring and partner work. Emphasis is on philosophy and discipline of the martial arts to increase students self-confidence and physical condition. This challenging program is for ages 7 through adults and will help participants lead a healthier life. ($25 one time Karate association fee taken at door for first time students.) Choose to take class one or two days a week.

CGC/Therapy Dog Prep Class

Students in this class will have had prior basic manners training with their dog. Dogs should know basic skills such as: sit, down, stay/wait, recall. Teams should have a good working/training relationship prior to enrolling in this class. This class will prepare teams who are interested in testing for their AKC Canine Good Citizen and/or Alliance of Therapy Dog certification. Testing may be done at the end of the 6-week session.

HELP! My Dog Has Hit the Teenage Phase!

Has your puppy forgotten all it knew? Maybe acting a bit like a teenager? Pushing boundaries, testing the waters? Or maybe you are in between needing puppy training and being ready for your CGC? This can be a challenging time to navigate! In this class we will work on skills that will help you survive their "teenage phase" and keep them on the right track to being that fantastic companion we know they can be!

Come work on building your strength! This class is for ages 12+ and is for anyone looking for a way to get into, or returning to, the world of fitness.

Puppy 101

Calling all puppies! In this class we will work on your training foundation with your new puppy! Skills will include name recognition, sit/stay, down/stay, mat/place work, recalls, plus fun games and other ways to keep your young puppy on the right path.

Open Ballet and Creative Movement

This class offers a wider age rage and will explore various styles of dance including ballet, jazz, and hip hop. Beginners and more experienced dancers are welcome. This class is meant to be fun, improve basic dance techniques and be a great form of exercise for kids!

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga incorporates poses, breathing, and deep relaxation. Participants should bring their own mat. This class will be held in the aerobics studio located at the Goochland Sports Complex (1800 Sandy Hook Road). There is no class on January 31.

Zumba

Zumba is a dance fitness format that will include pop, hip hop, and international music with dance rhythms that incorporate interval exercises. These dances will help you tone target areas on your body and absolutely increase your confidence as this class is a judgment free zone. This party is for everyone regardless of their fitness level. The goal is to have fun and keep moving!

This is a special session! Those who register will be given an accountability journal courtesy of Kerry. You will be given an accountability partner and work together through the session. The team that loses the most inches, not weight, will be given a gift basket courtesy of Kerry. Join the fun in the New Year and start off with your best foot forward!

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an effective exercise to improve health and well-being. Join us for a 6-week session to exercise your entire body and strengthen your mind. The central focus of Tai Chi is to enable the qi, a life force, to flow smoothly and powerfully throughout the body benefiting improved health and balance, increased flexibility and strength, and reduced stress. Choose to take one or two days a week.

Paranormal Investigation at Central High

Come join Flumeri Promotions as they teach about paranormal investigation and their own findings at Central Cultural and Educational Complex (formerly known as Central High)! This event will feature special guest, Mustafa Gatollari, from televisions "Ghost Hunters".
