The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is scheduled to begin installing center line rumble strips on Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) in Goochland County on Wednesday, June 21st to enhance safety.
The primary purpose of the rumble strips is to help prevent roadway departure crashes. Rumble strips create noise and vibration that alert drivers to correct their direction and can reduce head-on crossover and/or run-off crashes significantly.

Weather permitting, the rumble strip installation should begin on Wednesday, June 21st and be complete by the end of Thursday, June 22nd. It will occur along Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) between Fairground Road (Route 632) and the intersection of Three Chopt Road (Route 634) near Broad Street Road (Route 250) in Gum Spring.
During installation, drivers should expect delays and possible alternating lane closures. Anyone with questions about the project can call VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
