[ARCHIVED] Installation of Center Line Rumble Strips on Sandy Hook Road (Rt. 522) to Occur June 21st & 22nd

Centerline Rumble Strips - Sandy Hook Rd - June 21-22 - Installation Postponed to June 26

Installation of the center line rumble strips on Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) in Goochland County on Wednesday, June 21st, for safety by Virginia Department of Transportation, has been postponed to the week of June 26th due to weather.

The primary purpose of the rumble strips is to help prevent roadway departure crashes.  Rumble strips create noise and vibration that alert drivers to correct their direction and can reduce head-on crossover and/or run-off crashes significantly.

Weather permitting, the rumble strip installation was to begin on Wednesday, June 21st and be complete by the end of Thursday, June 22nd.  It has now been postponed, weather permitting, to the week of June 26th.   It will occur along Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) between Fairground Road (Route 632) and the intersection of Three Chopt Road (Route 634) near Broad Street Road (Route 250) in Gum Spring.

During installation, drivers should expect delays and possible alternating lane closures.  Anyone with questions about the project can call VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).  For the latest real-time traffic information or road conditions, call 511 or visit http://www.511virginia.org.
