Installation of the center line rumble strips on Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) in Goochland County has been rescheduled to begin the evening of Wednesday, June 28th by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The center line rumble strips are being installed for safety and were originally to be installed on Wednesday, June 21st but were postponed due to weather.
The primary purpose of the rumble strips is to help prevent roadway departure crashes. Rumble strips create noise and vibration that alert drivers to correct their direction and can reduce head-on crossover and/or run-off crashes significantly.

Installation is scheduled to begin the evening of Wednesday, June 28th and will be complete by the end of Thursday, June 29th weather permitting. It will occur along Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) between Fairground Road (Route 632) and the intersection of Three Chopt Road (Route 634) near Broad Street Road (Route 250) in Gum Spring.
During installation, drivers should expect delays and possible alternating lane closures. Anyone with questions about the project can call VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
